About ESDS – Simplicity. Impact. Survival.

A real-world self-defence system built on instinct, not tradition.

Explosive Self Defence System (ESDS)

The goal of ESDS is to give each participant maximum self-defence skills in the shortest possible time of training.

The Explosive Self Defence System (ESDS) is a simple method of protecting yourself, based solely on human behaviour. It is not a martial art, although it is practiced by many Martial Artists. It has none of the complexities which usually accompany martial arts. It certainly has no hidden depths: what you see is all there is to it.

There are no secrets in ESDS; it is simple because it has to be. ESDS is easily learned and easily retained. More importantly, because of its simplicity and its scenario based training methods; it is also easily recalled in the adrenaline charged turmoil of a real confrontation.

Our methods enable people of all ages and sizes to hit hard. All we do is develop the ability to strike powerfully and assertively, so that in the eventuality that you have to fight, you do so hard and fast; thus the fight ends very quickly, with a minimum of damage to both you and the adversary -in this modern, litigious age that fact alone can be important to a great many people.

Is ESDS a martial art?
No. ESDS is not a martial art.

Although many of our instructors have martial arts backgrounds, the system is built from the ground up on human instinct, pressure testing, and tactical medical intervention.

Any techniques that resemble martial movements have been stripped down, re-evaluated under stress, and adapted for simplicity, speed, and survivability — not tradition.

HEAD INSTRUCTOR

Emil Gozdzik

Emil serves as Head Instructor and Program Director for ESDS, with over a decade of experience in self-defense instruction, trauma care, and tactical readiness.

While his personal background includes boxing, Muay Thai, and traditional arts like Splashing Hands Kung Fu and Yang Lu Chan old-style Taiji, his teaching through ESDS is grounded in real-world pressure, human instinct, and field-tested functionality — not martial tradition.

Emil is head instructor in:

  • Point Shooting
  • Stop the Bleed (STB)
  • CPR for First Responders
  • Scenario-based civilian and tactical training

He is a licensed personal trainer (EREPS) and an experienced instructor in both civilian and high-stress professional environments.

FOUNDER

Slawomir "slavo" Gozdzik

Slavo is the founder of ESDS (est. 1994) and author of the system’s original framework. With over 30 years of law enforcement experience and active duty as a police officer, he currently serves as Training Coordinator for POLKON — the Swedish Police Force’s Conflict Management Concept.

His extensive instructional background spans arrest tactics, expandable baton, firearms (Glock, SIG SAUER, MP5), and high-risk response including ongoing deadly violence and active shooter scenarios.

While Slavo holds black belts in traditional martial arts, the development of ESDS is not based on martial arts systems, but rather on decades of observing real violence, human instinct, and operational performance.

His certifications include:

  • Head Instructor STB & CPR (First Responder)
  • Point Shooting Instructor
  • Licensed Personal Trainer (EREPS)
  • Member of the national coordination team for police tactics in Sweden
